UNKNOWN SOLDIER 

It was all over for those standing
behind the white line.
They got together for the last time
to picture what would be,
waiting for fire to fall from the sky.
Mankind slipped into unconsciousness
while trying to figure out how to stand.
With cold skin, dry lips,
only the sound of hysteria
was heard at the end of the line.
Shots from the other side
left the dogs howling.
Memories distorted, morals shattered,
the meaning was lost in a pool of blood
surrounded by silence.
A light from the outer limits
of sunrise appeared
with the clearance
from above for a new day.
History was made.
